Dr. Steve Soehren is a vastly experienced periodontist with significant training, clinical experience, and credentials. He earned his dental degree from the University of Iowa and completed a one year general practice residency in oral surgery at the University of West Virginia. He received a certificate of periodontal training from Walter Reed Army Medical Center in association with Georgetown University and earned a Master's Degree in Oral Biology from George Washington University.
Dr. Soehren practiced in Mannington, West Virginia before serving 23 years in the United States Army Dental Corp, of which he spent six years as a general dentist, and 17 years as a periodontist.
The Army Dental Corps promoted preventive care, periodontal soft and hard tissue regeneration and the beginning of implant therapy. Seven years were spent at Walter Reed Army Medical Center as part of a medical team approach to treating the dental aspects of truly ill medically adjunctive patients. He retired from the Dental Corp with the rank of Colonel.
Dr. Soehren then moved to Detroit, Michigan and assumed the Chair and Associate Professorship in the Department of Periodontics at The University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry. He changed his weekly schedule when he was recruited by the University of Michigan where he held a two day per week adjunct associate professorship appointment mentoring periodontal residents in the Department of Periodontics and Oral Medicine.He also practiced at and taught prosthodontic and general practice residents two days per week at the John D. Dingell Veterans Administration Medical Center in Detroit, Michigan. Two days of the week were also dedicated to private practice, one day in a large general dental practice and one day in a periodontal specialty office, for 13 or more years.
Dr. Soehren has published numerous abstracts, papers, and served on 9 thesis committees. He has directed a large number of periodontal courses and lectured extensively to dental students, dental hygiene students, graduate students, state and local dental societies, and designed and conducted continuing education courses in basic periodontal surgery and implant procedures. He was awarded honorary memberships into the prestigious Omicron Kappa Upsilon and Sigma Phi Alpha Societies.
Dr. Soehren is a Diplomat of the American Board of Periodontology and currently is serving a six year appointment as an examiner for the American Periodontal Specialty Board Examination. He is currently licensed to practice in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
