Getting a dental crown is usually a lengthy process. First, your dentist must remove the damaged tissue, reshape the tooth, take impressions, and fit you with a temporary crown. You will return for final placement once the dental lab generates your permanent restoration. Thanks to CEREC, you can spend less time in the dentist’s chair and keep your gorgeous smile intact.

An acronym for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics, CEREC utilizes 3-D technology to produce custom crowns, inlays, onlays, and veneers in one appointment. The restorations are milled from fine dental ceramic and contain no metal, allowing the dentist to protect the integrity and beauty of your attractive smile. With CEREC repairs, your dentist can conserve the maximum amount of healthy tooth structure as well.

Benefits of CEREC Restorations

  • Less hassle and inconvenience for patients
  • More precise repairs
  • Natural color that matches other teeth
  • No metal or silver materials
  • Performed in one session

The CEREC process begins when the dentist applies a thin layer of special powder to the tooth and then takes a digital photo of the area. Using computer-aided design technology, the doctor will generate a computer rending of the restoration chairside, allowing you to watch the process. Your dentist will select ceramic materials that match your tooth color so the restoration will blend in with your smile. In about 10 minutes, the milling unit will manufacture your new restoration. After checking the fit, the doctor will bond your new crown into place.
